Swim Ireland are delighted to receive confirmation of increased Women in Sport (WIS) Funding from Sport Ireland, bringing our total funding to support aquatic females for 2021-2022 to €160,000.

This is a welcome increase of €10,000 since Swim Ireland was last awarded WIS funding in 2019 and will go towards the continuation of existing Swim Ireland opportunities for women in aquatics and the redevelopment of others.

Swimming is a priority sport under the National Sports Policy and opportunities for Women In Sport has been a key focus across Swim Ireland programmes for many years. We are pleased to continue these opportunities and more for our members and the public.

Please read more below about the programmes planned with this funding. Each pillar of the Sport Ireland WIS Policy has been targeted;

1.Coaching & Officiating; WIS Coaching & Mentoring Programme

  • Swimming Level 2 and 3, Water Polo and Diving Level 1 and 2 qualifications
  • Coach Tutor qualifications
  • National Centre Mentorships – NEW

2.Leadership & Governance; WIS Leadership Programme

  • 8-Week programme aimed at women seeking or already in leadership roles across Swim Ireland disciplines and clubs.

3.Coaching & Officiating; Female Water Polo Referee Programme - NEW

  • Qualification
  • Active Refereeing opportunities for development

4.Active Participation; Swimmin’ Women – RE-DEVELOPED

  • Midlife women,
  • Teenage girls
  • Pregnancy and postpartum women

5.Visibility; #WePlay Resource Platform – RE-DEVELOPED

  • Evolving from the successful #WePlay Inspiring Girls in Sport conference into providing ongoing #WePlay themed resources, WIS Club talks and media training for female athletes.
