Irish swimmers will take to the pool in Bangor this weekend (Friday to Sunday) for the first National competition of 2019.  The McCullagh International Meet takes place at the Aurora Leisure Complex in Bangor, County Down.

A huge increase on the 2018 event will see over 500 swimmers from 79 clubs competing in 46 individual and 7 team events across three days of competition. The top Irish team in each relay event will also be awarded the title of National Relay Champions. The event will also incorporate an Age Group competition which will be run across the three days.

Ireland’s top swimmers will be in action as they continue to prepare for the Irish Open Swimming Championships in March (27th – 31st), which will be the only opportunity to qualify for 2019 World Championships, World University Games, European Junior Championships and European Youth Olympics.

World Championship and World Youth Olympic Games medalists Shane Ryan and Niamh Coyne will both be in action as will a host of Irish record holders including Brendan Hyland, Darragh Greene and Danielle Hill.

Irish athletes will be joined by 80 overseas swimmers with the likes of Stirling University, Berlin Swim and Plymouth Leander taking to the blocks.

The 'David McCullagh Memorial Trophy' will be awarded to the best Irish Team at the end of the three days of competition.

We’ll have updates on social media across the weekend.
