Tanya Watson 10th at LEN European Championships

Team Ireland diver Tanya Watson has finished 10th in the Final of the 10m Platform competition at the 35^th LEN European Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The 19-year-old, who last week finished 14^th at the FINA Diving World Cup, went into Thursday night’s European final ranked fourth and put in a bold performance in a top-class field to end the session ranked 10^th in Europe.

Watson accumulated 275.10 points in the final, scoring highest on her first and last dives to seal a memorable day in the Duna Arena.

Irish Senior Record holder Ciara McGing was also in action on Thursday, finishing 13th in the preliminary round of the 10m Platform with a score of 251.80.

Damian Ball, Swim Ireland's National Head Coach for Diving, said: "Another solid show from Tanya on the 10m board. That was a high scoring final and it’s good to see Ireland mixing it up with Europe’s best divers.

"We were a little unfortunate not to have two divers through to the finals, with Ciara just missing out by one place. Both girls have been brilliant and have earned a little downtime now after two back-to-back major championships."

Rio 2016 finalist Oliver Dingley will be Ireland’s next diver to compete at the LEN European Aquatics Championships when lining up for the 3m Springboard event on Friday.

Clare Cryan, who finished an impressive 8^th in the 1m Springboard on Tuesday, concludes Ireland’s diving programme in the Women’s 3m Springboard on Saturday.

Ireland’s bid to qualify a swimming relay team to the Olympic Games for the first time since 1972 then begins on Monday, May 17.
