Northern Ireland will have two athletes in action on the penultimate night of swimming at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham with Barry McClements in the 100m Butterfly Final and Danielle Hill in the 50m Backstroke Semi-Final, while Daniel Wiffen has qualified for tomorrow’s 1500m Freestyle Final.

Daniel Wiffen cruised into Wednesday’s 1500m Freestyle Final in fifth place in 15:37.53. The Larne swimmer, who was fourth in the 400m Freestyle Final on the opening day of competition, is swimming his main event, in which he is the Irish Record holder in 14:57.66, set at last month’s World Championships in Budapest.

Danielle Hill eased into the 50m Backstroke Semi-Final, her fourth semi-final of the week. The Larne swimmer touched in 28.32 placing third in her heat and seventh overall. Hill is the Irish Record holder in the event in 27.95.

Joining Hill tonight will be Barry McClements, Northern Ireland’s first ever swimming medallist at the Commonwealth Games, in the S10 100m Butterfly. McClements is an S9 competitor and so will be swimming with athletes a class above him for this final.
