Women in Sport
August 16, 2018
This June, we ran our first Women in Sport, Level 1 Blended Coaching (Swimming) & Mentoring Course, funded by Sport Ireland. 15 candidates successfully applied onto the course and have since completed their classroom units. These candidates are now assistant coaching on swim clinics to further their knowledge and confidence even more.
We are delighted to announce that we will be offering our second Level 1 Blended Coaching (Swimming) & Mentoring Course this October. The aim of the course is to address the lack of female coaching across Irish swimming. The course is a bespoke version of the typical Swim Ireland Level 1 Coaching Course, enabling candidates to access mentoring from current, prominent female coaches across Ireland.
The course involves a blend of online training and face to face. The online training is completed ahead of the face to face classroom and pool elements, which will take place at The National Aquatic Centre and Sport HQ in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15. The mentoring aspect commences once candidates have passed their classroom modules. The course will run from Tuesday the 30th of October to Friday the 2nd of November 2018 (10am – 4pm TBC) at a discounted cost of €125.
Participants will be required to:
- Complete Garda Vetting/Access NI by September 20th
- Complete a Level 1 Safeguarding Course (3 hours) before October 11th.
- Complete the online training (6 - 8 hours) prior to Tuesday the 23rd of October.
- Participate in the mentoring aspect of the programme
- Attend 3 Swim Ireland Coaching Clinics as a support coach after completing classroom units (qualification will not be awarded until these have been completed)
Online Learning Aspect:
The online assessment must be completed before Tuesday the 23rd of October, as previously stated. This assessment does not have to be done in one sitting, it will take, on average 6-8 hours in total to complete. Please do not rush through the online learning, as you must pass before attending the course. Take your time through the slides, making notes as you go to ensure that you have absorbed the information.
To apply for this coaching and mentoring programme, you must be a Swim Ireland Member and over the age of 16yrs, please complete the following application form and return to Trish Mayon via firstname.lastname@example.org by Thursday the 13th of September.
All applications will be considered, however, there is a maximum of 12 places available.
Candidates from the course we ran in June are now completing the mentoring aspect of the course, gaining more experience every month from prominent female coaches in Ireland.
