Team Ireland has a record 11 Irish aquatic athletes at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and nine of them are competing at their first Games, which in these times is a phenomenal achievement!

We've put together a quick guide to help you get to know and follow all our incredible athletes.

What's the swimming team?

Our swimming team is listed below along with their lifetime best times for their events. Each athlete's goal at these Games is to swim a lifetime best time.

Each of these athletes, except Shane Ryan in 100m Butterfly, are already Irish Senior Record holders in their individual events, so any lifetime best swim would also be a new National Record!

For the Men's 4x200m Freestyle Relay, this is about history as the first ever male swimming relay team from Ireland to compete at the Olympic Games, and the first Irish swimming relay to compete at the Games in 49 years.

Brendan Hyland 200m Butterfly - PB 1:56.55

Darragh Greene 100m / 200m Breaststroke - PBs 59.76 / 2:10.05

Daniel Wiffen 800m / 1500m Freestyle - PBs 7:52.68 / 15:16.90

Danielle Hill 50m Freestyle / 100m Backstroke – PBs 25:19 / 1:00.18

Ellen Walshe 100m Butterfly / 200m IM - PBs 59.32 / 2:12.02

Mona McSharry 100m / 200m Breaststroke - PBs 1:06.29 / 2:25.92
